Finding stillness amongst the chaos.

Depression is a ‘funny’ thing. It doesn’t care how happy you are or are supposed to be. It doesn’t care what you have, how much love surrounds you or the blessings directly before you. How could I have PPD??! I’ve just given birth to our second greatest little miracle...a little babe we prayed for was finally here after years of waiting. But depression doesn’t care and neither do the postpartum hormones swirling through my body. Sometime right before Valentine’s I was diagnosed with PPD/A (postpartum depression/anxiety). It hit me like a tidal wave of emotionless rage. I didn’t understand it’s origin or know how to process any of it...I just knew I wasn’t myself and I needed help. I still think PPD is this misunderstood response our bodies go through during postpartum. Not every mom’s PPD looks the same. Some new moms are affected differently and some at different points during their postpartum journey. For me, it was right after my milk dried up 6 weeks postpartum and *BAM* a flooding of hormones came coursing through my body I didn’t understand or expect. It scared me, to be honest. I felt distant from those I love most and sad I couldn’t talk or feel my way out of it.// I may share more in a blog post down the road and when I’m further out of the foggy woods with my hormones and emotions, but I just wanted to share this to say...you don’t have to feel this way. I didn’t have PPD with Brooks so it took me a while to see through my struggling that I may have some varying levels of PPD. Talk with a professional, stay in tuned with your body, your self care, talk with your spouse or family who may know you better than yourself while things are different than they were before baby was here.❤️ I loved this quote by @wittyotter “trying to reason with postpartum hormones is like telling the wind not to blow.” This new mom time is HARD, but it doesn’t have to feel emotionally impossible or alone🙏🏼
